Wizards Debunk Claims Explorer Failed On MTG Arena, Pledge Format Will Be More Supported Over Time

The launch of Explorer on MTG Arena hasn’t shaken the popularity rankings across formats and is on track when it comes to its total player base, according to a Wizards of the Coast developer on Reddit this week.

The Explorer format launched in April, offering players to MTG Arena an eternal format with no digital-only cards or rebalancing changes, like the cards in Historic.

Recent data from a third party magic the gathering website on Reddit suggested that the new format performed poorly compared to the historic format, suggesting that the low numbers are a representation of a lack of support.

The numbers for Explorer, however, hit the projection markers, says WotC.

“Historic is still much more popular than Explorer. Explorer is the least played of the major formats, which is quite reasonable since it’s also the youngest,” said WotC_Cromulous. “That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong or that we won’t continue to support him!” You can still expect to see some explorer-focused content coming to the game soon.

Explorer is a promising format that will take time to become what Historic is today. It took time for Historic to grow once it got more support, and according to WotCthe team plans to support Explorer with format-specific content in the future.

Data showing the number of players competing in historical games will likely increase in the coming weeks with the addition of Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate, as well as the historic brawl. And Standard, for now, will remain the most played format on MTG Arena.

And, according to WotCMagic The strength is that it has many different ways to play.
