Serenade, the online music marketplace3, has teamed up with Warner Records UK to launch ‘Digital Pressing’, a new limited edition collectible music format that will produce the first UK and Australian chart-eligible music format since inclusion of album streams in 2015.
Digital Pressing is a stand-alone, chart-eligible digital release (instead of being part of a larger release “bundle”) designed by Serenade to satisfy a superfan’s appetite for rarity, exclusivity, and recognition . Living on the blockchain and offering web3 features such as verifiable ownership and the ability to trade on secondary markets, Digital Pressing will also generate accurate and perpetual royalties for artists, copyright owners and content owners.
Muse will be the first artist to bring this new format to their fans with the release of their next album “Will Of The People” on Digital Pressing on Friday August 26th. Will Of The People, the band’s ninth self-produced studio album and their first since 2018, will be released via Warner Records and Helium-3.
Digital pressing is a new affordable and accessible format that is supposed to have a low carbon footprint. The new album is expected to retail for £20 and will be available to purchase using a credit or debit card.
“As a simple, standardized, chart-eligible format, Digital Pressings will be a game-changer on the world stage”
Max Shand, Serenade
Following the digital pressing of Muse, Serenade will undertake to support and strengthen artists’ campaigns; from emerging talents to established icons and legends. Unlike vinyl production which requires significant overhead and a current six to nine month lead time, there is no cost associated with creating a digital pressing and the turnaround time can be less than two weeks .
Serenade worked with UK-based Official Charts Company and Australia’s ARIA to become the first chart-eligible NFT market, with “Will Of The People” making chart history as the first digital pressing to be officially recognized as part of this new agreement, one sale being equivalent to one album unit. To date, no albums delivered as NFT have contributed to the official UK or Australian Albums Charts.
Max Shand, Founder of Serenade, said, “As a simple, standardized, chart-eligible format, Digital Pressings will be a game-changer on the global stage, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of the visionary teams at Warner. Records. , the OCC and the ARIA, all of which want to give artists every opportunity to bring creativity and innovation to their campaigns. Martin Talbot, Managing Director of the Official Charts company, said: “Over their seven decades, the Official Charts have always strived to evolve with the times, reflecting the consumption of new formats and all new ways of distributing music, as they evolve. Just as vinyls, 8-tracks, cassettes, CDs and even MiniDiscs, DCCs and DATs have been welcomed to the charts, so will we welcome Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) – and we’ll be thrilled when the debut album drops. delivered as NFT is contributing to the rankings, with Serenade and Muse leading this summer. NFTs are an exciting new format, the potential of which is only beginning to be explored and I’m sure will play a part in the official charts for years to come.
