RED BLUFF — The Tehama County Library is holding a contest for youth and adults to submit designs for a special-edition library card to be released in late spring or early summer.
The Tehama County Arts Council awarded the library a $1,000 grant to fund the project to encourage public engagement in the arts. The contest winner will have their design printed on 1,000 limited-edition library cards.
County Librarian Todd Deck approached the Board of Supervisors Tuesday with design submissions the library has already received from two local youths.
One of the submissions featured three sheep reading in a brightly colored field.
“It’s special because (she) is unable to visit inside our doors due to COVID and she did it entirely from a computer and she uses our ebooks and Kanopy video streaming “Deck said. “So it’s pretty cool that she can connect with us, but she can’t visit inside.”
The library’s primary focus throughout the pandemic has been to find a way to connect and reach the public without the need for in-person amenities. The Library Design Competition is another way for the library to engage with the public and provide individuals with the opportunity to preview their works.
“The library wanted to engage with our community during the pandemic. This project is something all ages can safely participate in at home,” Deck said. “We also wanted the map to reflect community interests and talents. So far, we have already received over 50 submissions. All of them are so unique and reflect our community’s love for the library and reading.
All Tehama County Library cardholders of all ages are encouraged to submit their creations by the March 31 deadline.
Submissions may be in any medium and artwork must be original and copyright free.
Upon submission, individuals grant Tehama County Library all rights to their works and all submitted works may be displayed and reproduced without limitation or compensation.
Submissions can be dropped off at any of the three Tehama County Library locations or attached to an email to [email protected]. Files must be in jpg, png or pdf format.
