Paul Gallen vs Justin Hodges, Ben Hannant full card, format, how it works, start time, how to watch, odds

The time for talks is coming to an end, with the Origin Rumble set to blow up in Brisbane on Thursday night.

For perhaps the last time, former NSW Blues captain Paul Gallen will step into the ring.

Ahead of him will be not one but two Queenslanders, with longtime foes Justin Hodges and Ben Hannant keen to get a piece of the former striker.

Gallen (12-2-1, 7KO) may be the big favourite, but for the first time in Australian boxing history he will face two fights – on the same night.

Fireworks are expected, with a $1 million salary potentially on offer for Hodges (5-1) or Hannant (0-1) while Gallen, who has promised to knock out both men in five rounds.

While tensions had been simmering on the surface for weeks, they exploded in recent days following an explosive press conference on Tuesday where Gallen told Hodges to “kiss” his children goodbye because it would be the last time that would see them.

The words touched a nerve and on Wednesday, during their weigh-in, Hodges saw red as he walked headfirst into Gallen and then put his hand around his opponent’s throat before others intervened.

Gallen (102.54kg) weighed the lightest of the trio, with Hodges hitting the scales at 103.9kg and former prop Hannant at 107.56kg.

But it’s not just the State of Origin tripod that is thrilling onlookers, with Joe Goodall set to make his return to the ring after going down in June against Australian heavyweight star Justis Huni.

Goodall, who was previously based in Las Vegas and worked under Kevin Barry, will face Arsene Fosso who is looking for an upset victory over his rival.

Benjamin Hussain also fights, as he takes on Lachie Higgins for the IBO Oceania East middleweight title.

Hussain is on a four-fight winning streak and is coming off an impressive win over Wes Capper.

The card was also set to feature an Australian lightweight title fight between Harry Garside (3-0) and Miles Zalewski (11-2). But Olympic medalist Garside injured his hand a week after the fight and has since retired.

What time is Gallen vs. Hodges & Hannant?

The event and broadcast are scheduled to start at 6:00 PM AEST before the start of the main card and pay-per-view portion of the broadcast at 7:00 PM.

Expect Gallen’s first fight sometime after 9 p.m. and his second fight after 10 p.m., depending on the length of previous fights.

Gallen vs. Hodges & Hannant format

After weeks of discussion, which saw Gallen threaten to walk away, the format was confirmed – albeit with a surprising twist.

Both fights will last four two-minute rounds and Gallen should have at least an hour break in between.

But Gallen, much to his frustration, won’t know which of the two he will fight first until they begin their march to the ring on fight night.

At that point, Gallen will find out who he fights first.

It is widely believed that he will face Hodges, who defeated Hannant in his first fight earlier this year.
