BENGALURU: In a major relief to farmers who had to give up their land amid the training of Dr Shivaram Karanth Layout of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), the agency offered them compensation certificates. The first batch of “eligibility certificates” was handed over Thursday by BDA officials in their villages in Yelahanka taluk.

A BDA team led by Deputy Commissioner, Land Acquisition Unit, Dr A Soujanya, traveled to Kaltammanahalli and Ganigarahalli to deliver certificates to 22 people who lost land. The format and necessity of issuing such a certificate was devised by the Supreme Court appointed committee of Judge AV Chandrashekhar, specially constituted for the layout. The step was then approved by the court.

“Those who have lost their land to our developments are entitled to either a cash payment or a 40:60 compensation agreement, in which they get 40% of the developed land (9,583 square feet) for each acre of land surrendered. by them. This certificate is almost like a warranty card. When we launch the site allocation process shortly, they will be given priority, ”Soujanya told TNIE.

Jayakar Jerome, a member of the SC committee, said the certificate showed the name of the loser of the land, the serial number, the village, the extent of the land ceded, as well as the amount of developed land that would be donated in the future. . “The committee was very particular so that this kind of relief is offered to the person who separates from his land,” he added.

Highlighting the huge benefit of compensation in the form of donated land, DC explained that the value of land is bound to increase over time. “The land given in compensation for one acre after the formation of the route could have three sites of 60×40 m² and even one site of 30×40 m². The landowner can just sell one site and make a lot of money and keep the rest, ”she said.

“The price was framed (fixed compensation) for approximately 2,200 acres, out of 3,546 acres. We will finish the price in a month. We have already taken possession of 1,200 acres and handed it over to Engineering. Certificates will only be issued to farmers who agree to land compensation, ”the DC concluded.
