Tencent has revealed the details of the biggest PUBG Mobile event of the year, the PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022. The PMGC 2022 will be divided into two stages: the league stage and the grand final. The 2022 edition of the PUBG Mobile Global Championship will see an increase in the number of slots. The tournament has been split into two regions, East and West, where 24 teams from each region will compete to secure their spot in the Grand Finals. The PMGC 2022 will feature a prize pool of USD 4,000,000, which is lower than the previous edition of the tournament (USD 6,000,000). The top 13 teams from the League Stage will meet three guest teams in the Grand Final of the tournament.
Timetable and location of PMGC 2022:
The League Stage of PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 will start on November 22, 2022, where 48 qualified teams from the regional tournaments will participate. The grand final of the tournament will take place in January 2023, which will be a LAN event in Indonesia. The detailed tournament schedule and format have yet to be revealed by Tencent.
PMGC 2022 slots and teams:
Tencent, the organizer of PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 has increased the number of slots in the tournament. This year, a total of 51 teams will participate in the global championship, of which 48 teams from the regional tournaments will be placed in the championship phase while the other three will be directly invited to the grand final.
PUBG Mobile fans have witnessed the dominance of Chinese teams in previous editions of the Global Championships. Nova Esports were the undisputed champions of PMGC 2020 and PMGC 2021. Tencent announced four spots for Chinese teams. The winner of the current PEL (Peacekeeper Elite League) 2022 will be directly invited to the grand final, while the 2nd and 3rd placed teams will advance to the league phase of the tournament. The Chinese fourth place will be decided in a regional tournament later this year.
Tencent also announced the PUBG Mobile Regional Clash. It will be a four-day tournament in September 2022 where the best teams from the China region and Southeast Asia will compete.
The berths for the Indian teams have not been disclosed by Tencent possibly due to the uncertainty over BGMI’s status in India.
