The Organizing Institute (OI) is one of the administering institutions, and it is responsible for the end-to-end process as well as the overall coordination between the administering institutes for the GATE exam. Format of the GATE
The GATE exam has two main sections General Aptitude (GA) and Candidate Selected Topic. The total duration of the GATE exam is 3 hours. GA has 10 questions and 55 questions are from the chosen topic, making a total of 65 questions.
Some questions in the online exam papers will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs), in which only one out of four answers is correct. The remaining questions can be of the Multiple Select Question (MSQ) type, in which one or more of the four options are correct, or of the Numerical Answers Type (NAT), in which the candidate must enter the answer using a virtual keyboard.
A candidate can take one or both GATE tests. However, your combination of two papers must be chosen from a predefined list. Even if you take two exams, you only need to complete one application form.
Fees for the GATE exam
Candidates in the SC/ST/PwD* category (per paper) have to pay a sum of Rs 750 to register for the GATE exam in the regular period, while they have to pay Rs 1250 if the fees are submitted during the extended period.
All other candidates have to pay a fee of Rs 1500 to register for the GATE exam during the regular period, while they have to pay Rs 2000 if the fee is submitted during the extended period. The GATE application fee was paid online using credit/debit cards, wallet or online banking.
Eligibility Criteria and Scholarship
Before starting the application process, the applicant must confirm that they meet the GATE 2022 educational qualification requirements. Applicants who are currently enrolled in the third year or more of an undergraduate degree program or who have completed a government-approved degree program in engineering, technology, architecture, science, business, or arts are eligible to take the GATE exam 2022. The GATE exam has no age limit. Applicants from countries other than India must have completed or be in the final year of a four-year Bachelor of Engineering. Applicants are advised to check the GATE Eligibility Criteria website for detailed information on the documents needed to prove their eligibility.
To be eligible for the scholarship, a candidate must first be accepted into a program at one of the centrally-supported institutes, in a method that varies by institute. Applicants can inquire about admissions procedures and the availability of a Ministry of Education scholarship or assistantship from the respective admissions institutions. The AICTE PG scholarship, for example, is intended to support GATE/GPAT certified students admitted to ME/MTech/MArch and MPharm programs at AICTE-recognized universities. The main objective of the scholarship is to help India develop its technical education system. A monthly stipend of INR 12,400 is paid to selected scholars.
